Watch The Bourne Trilogy Get Beaten To A Pulp In This Brutal Honest Trailer

After almost 10 years of waiting, Matt Damon is back as Jason Bourne, which means it's time to look at the original trilogy again. The Screen Junkies crew has given the first three movies the Honest Trailer treatment, and it's hilarious. While the first three Bourne films are stil overall pretty good, there are still plenty of things about them at which it's worth poking some fun. The Bourne trilogy has had some of the best action cinematography in recent memory. The Honest Trailer is right to point out that the series made the James Bond franchise look a bit silly by comparison. In fact, it's probably safe to say that Bourne probably had a big hand in that particular spy franchise getting a complete overhaul when the Daniel Craig-era started. However, not everything about the films is perfect. The first dig in the trailer comes at the expense of the "shaky-cam" for which the films are so well known. While that cinematography certainly adds a level of frenetic chaos to the proceedings, it can also feel like you've completely lost track of what's going on. Of course, the biggest thing to point out about the Bourne movies is how similar they all are to each other. Each one is a story about Jason Bourne learning more about his past, having a car chase, and running from a bunch of people who are chasing him on computers. It happens in every movie. Also, we're about as sick of the word "asset" as they are. If there's an even bigger issue with watching this trailer, it's that if you've already seen the new film, Jason Bourne, you realize that it also follows every single one of these beats. The fact is that this trailer could be covering all four films and they really wouldn't need to change very much. This can be good news, we suppose, if the consistency between films is part of what you liked about them, but bad news if you're looking for something new and a bit more original. The Bourne movies are without a doubt absolutely great action films. Even the Honest Trailer doesn't beat up on them too much for what they are. While they may be somewhat repetitive, everything they do, they do pretty well. There's a reason this franchise has remained popular throughout the last decade, even though Matt Damon hasn't made one of these movies in that time. Do you think the Honest Trailer is fair in its criticism? Let us know what you think in the comments. As for the next chapter in the series, director Paul Greengrass' Jason Bourne arrives in theaters today. You can read our review of it here.
